Insect farming emits considerably less greenhouse gases and requires far less resources to produce than today’s protein standards.

Our process, like our philosophy, is based on circularity. We upcycle leftover organic matter from fruit processing plants that would have otherwise ended up in landfills to use as feedstock for our BSFL.

The larvae go through a 14-day vertical feeding process in which minimum land space is required. In that time, their weight increases by a factor of 10,000 - roughly proportional to a chipmunk growing to be the size of an adult walrus! Upon harvest, the larvae is sifted out from the frass and can either be conserved whole or can undergo a rendering process where the oils are separated from the protein.

Due to the feed industry’s strong reliance on fishmeal, global fish stocks are being heavily exploited. This decrease in forage fish populations also impacts other marine species that depend on them for food.

By 2050 the global population will have reached 10 billion, resulting in a 70% increase in demand for animal based protein compared to today’s production. In order to support this growth we desperately need to start turning to sustainable livestock feed alternatives.
